Dr. William A. Cunningham III is a Professor of Logistics and Supply Chain Management in the Department of Operational Sciences, Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), Wright-Patterson AFB, OH. Prior to joining the faculty at AFIT, he was a faculty member at the University of South Alabama, where he was also the Director of the Center for Waterways Research. He was also a faculty member at the University of Memphis and was director of the Transportation Research Center. He has served on the board of directors of several industry groups in transportation.

Cunningham is currently on the editorial review board of the Journal of Transportation Management and is an examiner for the Certified in Transportation and Logistics professional certification by the American Society of Transportation and Logistics and was the founding editor of the Waterways and Transportation Review. He has served on the board of directors of several industry groups in transportation.

He is the author of more than 50 refereed journal articles, more than 40 conference proceedings, more than 25 conference presentations, and is the co-author of “A Primer on Highway Finance” with Grant M. Davis.

His research interests include strategic mobility, cost/benefit analysis, econometric modelling, costing, privatization and a-76 studies, modal choice network analysis, location analysis, supply chain management and RFID

Cunningham earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration in economics from Missouri Southern University, a master’s degree in economics from Oklahoma State University and a doctorate in economics from the University of Arkansas.
