From the report: "The Department of the Air Force (DAF) was established under the National Security Act of 1947, becoming one of three military departments within the Department of Defense (DoD). The DAF is comprised of the United States (U.S.) Air Force (USAF) and the U.S. Space Force (USSF). The USAF was created in 1907 as a functional component of the U.S. Army and is the fifth branch of the U.S. Armed Forces. On December 20, 2019, as part of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2020 National Defense Authorization Act, the USSF became the sixth branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, established as a Military Service within the DAF. For FY 2024, the USSF is reported as part of the DAF General Fund (GF) financial statements.
As a steward of government resources, the DAF prepares its Agency Financial Report every FY to convey its financial position and performance results to taxpayers. It demonstrates commitment to the DAF’s missions, accountability, and stewardship over the resources entrusted to the DAF by members of Congress, the President of the United States, and the public.
