From the report: “The Department is one of the Nation’s largest employers, with approximately 1.3 million personnel in the Active Component, nearly 800,000 military personnel serving in the National Guard and Reserve forces, and approximately 770,000 civilian employees. DOD Military Service members and civilians operate globally in all domains, including air, land, sea, space, and cyberspace. In fulfilling the Department’s mission, Military Service members operate approximately 19,700 aircraft and over 290 battle force ships.”
